This article details the step-by-step procedures for how to install your local (USB) or network connected Lexmark printer on your Mac Operating System.

Section A: CD Installation

IMPORTANT: These steps apply to Mac OS X 10.5 – X 10.7 only.

2Double-click on the <Series>Installer icon to start the installation.
3Follow the instructions that you see on your computer screen.
4The installation process ends with the Printer Setup screen of the Lexmark Setup Assistant.

IMPORTANT: These steps apply to Mac OS X 10.4 or later for any web driver downloaded from the Lexmark website. For more information, visit the Lexmark Compatibility Page.

Using Local (USB) connection

Remove any previously installed drivers by locating and running the Uninstaller application.

Uninstaller location: From Finder, navigate to Mac HD >Application > Lexmark and double-click on Uninstaller.

If you have not already downloaded the latest driver, go back to the Lexmark website, select your printer and OS version to obtain the correct driver.

3Double-click on the Install icon and follow the instructions on your computer screen.
4The installation process ends with the Printer Setup screen of the Lexmark Setup Assistant.

Using Network (Ethernet) or Wireless Connection

Note:Proceed to Step 3 if your printer is already communicating wirelessly or with an established Ethernet connection.

Make sure the printer is turned ON and Ready and make sure your computer is communicating on the network.

Wi-Fi Protected Setup

Your printer and wireless router supports WPS*.

Optionally, you can join your network using this process.

To activate WPS push button method from the printer:

  1. Press (Setup) > Network Setup > Wireless Networking > Wi-Fi Protected Setup > PBC
  2. Quickly go to the wireless router to press its WPS button and wait for configuration to complete
  3. Repeat if necessary.

Ethernet-to-Wireless Setup

The printer is already communicating with wired Ethernet connection and you would like to switch to wireless.

Obtain the printer's IP address and navigate to Settings > Network/Ports > Wireless to configure your security settings.Go to Step 3.Click here for an example.

Important! If your printer is not Bonjour-enabled, you will need to obtain the printer's IP address; e.g., 192.168.0.125.

To obtain the printer IP address:

  • Printers with touchscreens: press or .
  • Navigate to the printer's Network Menu to locate the address.
  • Printers without touchscreens: navigate to the printer's Network Menu and locate the address.
  • Or, print the Network settings or Menu settings page and look under TCP/IP.

Add the print queue.

To do this:

  1. From the Apple menus, navigate to either of the following:

    System Preferences >Print & Scan or System Preferences >Print & Fax.

  2. Click on the [+] sign and then the Default Tab.

  3. On the Default tab, select (highlight) the printer from the list of discovered printers.

    Option: For printers that do not support Bonjour, select IP tab, select Internet Protocol (IPP) or HP JetDirect Socket under the Protocol tab,and then enter the printer IP Address.

  4. The system will automatically search for the applicable driver.

    Note: If the printer driver is not found, select it manually from the Print Using drop-down list. Click Others and search for your printer model's corresponding PPD file.

  5. Click Add.

A print queue will now be created under system preferences.

To verify this:

Go to System Preferences > Print and Scan or System Preferences > Print and Fax.

Post-installation WSA NOTE: WSA locations should you need to re-run this application:

  • Inside the Lexmark <Model> Series installation folder
  • Directory path: <HD Volume>/Library/Printers/Lexmark/2### folder; i.e., 2009

Using Local (USB) connection

If no previously installed printer is detected, a dialog will display saying, 'Would you like to download and install software for <Lexmark Model >?'

Click Install.

A print queue is automatically created in your system preferences.

To verify successful print queue creation:

Go to System Preferences > Print and Scan or System Preferences > Print and Fax.

Using Wireless or Network (Ethernet) connection

  • Using Wireless Network

1Make sure the printer is turned on and ready, also that it is connected to the same wireless network as with the Mac.
2To set up your printer on the wireless network:
  • Use the front panel of the printer if applicable.
  • Use the Embedded Web Server of the printer to connect to a wireless network, click here for more information.
  • Use the Wireless Setup Assistant software if available, click here for more information.
3Obtain the printer IP address by performing any of the following:
  • From the printer control panel.
  • From the TCP/section in the Network/menu.
  • By printing a network setup page or menu settings page, and then finding the TCP/section.

Note:Connect the printer to your network using the Ethernet Cable (unless already connected wirelessly.
